WOW. What an all-rounder of an oil and a MUST HAVE OIL FOR EVERY BUDDING MASSEUR. We have a fabulous supplier whose oil, though technically being a medium texture, is so fine, light and isn’t too heavy or greasy. Yes, it is heavier than say almond oil but gives an amazing massage glide, is odourless and very easily absorbed into the skin, leaving a satin smooth finish without a greasy trace. And all at the most economical of costs.
Grapeseed Oil is suitable for all skin types including those with nut allergies, and has good emollient properties that help calm and soothe sensitive or irritated skin. It has mildly astringent qualities which help to tone the skin, which can be helpful with oily and acne-prone skin.
Containing copious quantities of linoleic acid, Grapeseed Oil helps to control cellular metabolism and maintain the health of skin cell membranes. It also contains Vitamin E which assists in the fading of age spots, stretch marks and wrinkles. However, the large quantities of linoleic acid mean that the shelf life of Grapeseed Oil is not as long as many other carriers, but is still at least 6 months when stored correctly. All product has best before dates.
Although it is possible to obtain Grapeseed Oil by cold expression, the very low yield using this method means the price is disproportionately expensive, therefore very little oil is produced this way. This oil is produced via heat extraction of the fruit seeds. The heat is a very gentle hot press, in that it requires heat to advance the oil extraction process. Electric heaters are attached to the press cylinder and as the seeds inside the cylinder heats up, softens and are broken down. This method tends to improve oil yield and keeps prices low but the heat can reduce the flavour, aroma and nutritional content of the oil so temperature is carefully controlled.
