Lemon Eucalyptus Select Essential Oil 10ml (blue)
We could eulogise about this wonderful, fragrant alternative to standard eucalyptus oil offered as part of our Select, Best of the Best range. Select oils are sourced from the region known to produce the best oil of that type and are easily distinguished by their cobalt blue glass bottle. This oil balances the usual Eucalyptus pungency, with a fabulous lemon fragrance.
Said to be a great decongestant & good for easing muscles. It is also antiseptic. It is excellent for clearing congestion in the nose, sinus and chest when inhaled in a steamer (a few drops in a bowl of hot water). Added to a base oil it makes a fabulous chest rub or the same mix can be used on aching sore or stiff muscles. Use in a vaporiser to ward off airborne germs and keep winter coughs and colds at bay.
Obtained from fragrant leaves of the Eucalyptus citriodora tree, popular in the Melbourne area of Australia, this oil is known both its botanical name, and as lemon eucalyptus. Although not as popular as standard Eucalyptus globulus, it is fast growing in reputation and gaining momentum due to its powerful bactericidal and insect repellent properties. Plus it offers the benefits without the medicinal smell!
Large quantities of lemon eucalyptus essential oil were distilled in Queensland during the 1950’s and 1960’s, very little of this oil in real terms is produced in Australia today. Brazil, China and India, dominate production with smaller quantities originating from South Africa, Guatemala, Madagascar, Morocco and Russia. Leaf harvesting may take place twice a year in large plantations. The leaves, stems and twigs are sometimes chipped before quickly loading into the still for extraction by steam distillation. yielding 1.0% to 1.5% of a colourless to pale straw coloured essential oil. The odour is very fresh, lemon-citrus and similar to Citronella.
Lemon eucalyptus essential oil is said to be a powerful fungicidal and bactericidal, and useful when treating athletes foot. It is also thought effective against a wide range of respiratory conditions such as asthma, sinusitis, phlegm, coughs and colds, as well easing sore throats and laryngitis. Vaporized, lemon eucalyptus oil has a reviving and refreshing action that uplifts, yet is also calming to the mind. It also makes an excellent insect repellent and can be used alone or in blends with other respected repellent oils such as, lemongrass, cedar atlas etc.
